| Just a reminder when reading LH's placement result for P1 (I had read it for few years, surprise? :happy: ) They actually have changed the way they present the P1 allocation. If you refer to their web site, here's the link of the result for last year http://www.learninghabitat.org/en/placement_results/pr01.htm What caught my attention few years ago when studying LH is, they have a tricky way of presenting the data in the past. There are actually four tables presenting: the first two are new format this which comply with other kindergartens (if choose to present the result), where the total number of offers will match the total number of student. You can see the total nunber of K3 students listed there are 177, which agrees with the total of the first two tables. Then, the last 2 tables are the old format which LH used to post their result. If you pay attention, they have this reminder to parents saying "Some students have been granted offers from more than one school". Based on this section, the total number of K3 students are 181 (4 more than the first section I guess these 4 parents didn't report back where their children went eventually), but the total number of seats offered are 267 + 90 = 357. So, the old formats somehow is not a very useful information since we don't know how many of the ultra smart kids receive tons of offers while some less fortunate ones may have none at all. Anyway, I just want to point out as I have reviewed many kindergarten's data, LH is one of the special one which used to have such reporting methods so left a stronger impression to me. | Iantsang, I think according to the link given, the difference of no. of graduates(4 students)could either be "student with no offer" or "student who did not report their final offer". But I would say it's the latter because table 2 & 4 are the results of "Government & Aided PS". I suppose even the "worst case" should at least got 1 offer from so-called the lucky draw? I agree with you that the "old format" is not so informative. The offers of "DSS & Private PS"(267 offers) included both "students who got lots of offers" and "students who finally chose Gov/Aided PS but also got offer from DSS/Private PS". Thank you very much for your analyze. :excited: I still appreciated for the information posted by LH as it was just as much the school can disclose to the public, no matter it is a good/misleading way to present. | thanks Ian.我之前都有留意到2個圖表的分別,但沒有你的細心,看不到177與181之別.也分享一下我對數字的看法... 校方現在posted的兩個圖表(即1.LH畢業生獲取錄的總offers,及2.LH畢業生最終入讀的小學),我都有興趣知道.我明白,以總offers的圖表(簡稱圖表1)為例,推一個極端情況是,最叻的10%畢業生人人手持10個最好的offers,變了數據中那些人人想入的學校的offers的數目,其實來來去去說的只是那10%同學的表現.yeah,其實只要抱住這個警惕去看這堆數字,it's fine enough.因為最終有最終入讀小學的圖表(簡稱圖表2)配合,後者才是較好的參考. 不過話又說回來,圖表2是比較反映每名學生最後的選校取向(當然,選校名單也反映學生競爭力-我說的是DSS及直資部份的名單),但說到要反映畢業生的競爭力(我不敢用質素/能力呢... :) ),其實是圖表1才能反映.我很有興趣知道他們總共攞到的offers架. 還有,有些KG(我不開名了)是只用百分比(instead of 實際數字)去present升小情況的,這,我就覺得LH用實數(當然not only LH用實數)較有透明度及較少偏差.因為我覺得畢業生人數又不是很大,sample size太小了,說百分比不太好(例如得100人,8人入讀某校,已是8%了). 其實,所有數字,或者所有圖表,都有局限(泛指所有所有,not only KG),一定不能present整體現象,我想,明白數學的人最明白這事.例如,像LH的圖表(我只說LH,因其他KG不熟),看到一些大家見到眼都發光的學校名時,都有另一個可能性,就是父母是old boys或old girls. 所以,我一直覺得,圖表只能用作選校的其中一個參考,選KG還有其他a,b ,c,d factors去參考的...家長們必須抱著alert的心去看,事實上,這一堆數字不能說明/暗示我囡囡小一會有邊間學校收嘛... :) 至於我不會質疑由官方網頁(泛指all KG)公布的小一數字,是從它的真偽性來說的.理性推斷,我不相信任何校方夠胆作假(這方面),因為夠胆放在網上公諸於世,如果被篤爆作假,誠信會一鋪清袋,這個風險我想任何校長也不敢去冒的. 歡迎討論. |
