It isn’t my 1st choice but I like its language policy. Funny thing is originally we wanted to send her somewhere which only does English / Mandarin but now we chose RHS over Kiangsu because it teaches Cantonese. Btw my girl has got an AM offer too so the kids could become classmates.

Yes, I prefer Cantonese too because RHS introduces Spanish to the kids as well. We usually speak in Cantonese and sometimes English at home. It’s my worry that attending school that teaches Mandarin as well is well too much.

I’m actually happy to let her learn Mandarin at school but I guess what matters the most are the languages used at home as my girl still doesn’t speak a word of Mandarin even after going to a pre-nursery where they do English /Mandarin bilingually for almost 3 months. (emoji)(emoji)‍♀️ Guessing the exposure at school is just not enough.

I see. It takes time for kids to kick start but once they do so they may speak fluently. Perhaps you will see your girl improve rapidly in a short future! My boy will start his N tomorrow. I look forward to seeing him change in a way or two. Haha.

Hi! My son is starting K1 in September. Daughter in PN. I’m also interested in the language learning. I really wonder if they can actually learn any Spanish at all. It’s great they teacher so much but how much gets absorbed in the end? I guess every child will be different and we should let them soak in as much as possible.

I believe every child learns at their own pace, and it also depends on the exposure they are given. Yet with Spanish being the 4th / 5th of most of the Hong Kong kids, they probably won’t be able to be fluent in Spanish unless they have their own tutors. That said, it’s always nice to learn another language just for the fun of it:)
