My son joined a Watoto Home Building Camp in Uganda for 2 weeks, Camp fee HK$20k plus fundraising HK$4k for material fee.


Program covered Service - Culture - Health - Leadership.....

嘩！使兩萬幾銀去烏干達起屋，好有意義，但又好奢侈。就算我有錢我都未必捨得。

舊年暑假，我兩個仔話要做暑期工賺錢，以幫補他們的學費。我話等到您地夠十五歲先諗喇。其實，入大學是否真係要做義工先有分加？如果做有償的暑假工，例如去做麥當奴快餐，或者去商場賣野，對入大學有否幫助？又或者會唔會被認為太貪錢，會被扣分？

佢地係認的，我都贊成佢地去做暑假工揾錢，我覺得對佢地個人成長會有幫助，但我唔知大學裡的教授會點樣睇老麥員工和做街霸式Sales的年青人。

回復 Tommy 的帖子 To Africa, just stretched his limits and comfort zone....... not purely for university admission. He learnt how to do fund raising, talked to doner, presented the trip report, understanding the difficulties of those kids and women, sick and death...... After the trip, he has better idea for his career.
Working in MacDonald or other places are fine, not illegal jobs are fine. Volunteer work in HK also useful.

Next time I will be more careful and not mentioned the fee etc.

兩萬幾去非洲唔貴喇！我大仔學校有一團學生去越南起屋，團費都要成兩萬，結果反而呢團最熱門，人人爭住去，我大仔都報呢團但抽唔到，結果抽到去絲綢之路做義工，費用都接近兩萬，好肉赤！
我只係好疑惑，洗咁多錢去咁遠做義工，究竟係佢去幫人，定係人地去幫佢？佢既得著又會有幾多？其實，我地有些家長對呢d活動都有質疑，甚至提出反對，但最後大多數都係乖乖地比錢參加。

All depends on their mind set and expectation.


My son also has a team from the school, they continuous visit an elderly home for 18 months in HK. The consistence and focus also important in CAS.

小女好孤寒, 知道要驶兩萬幾, 一定唔去非洲, 而挑選去长州做義工, 都是去帮人, 只要是真心诚意, 依然是 意义重大 的.
我为人有点虚荣, 当然想她往非洲见世面, 一般行程是十天内, 扣除来回飞行路程两,三天, 余下七天, 大部分时间在camp site 内, 教下英语, 修建课室, 跟孩子玩游戏. 既安全又舒服, 保证开心. 我毫不犹豫的认为大部分孩子的最大得着是: HAPPY! 好HAPPY!
其实好想阿女今年暑假去餐厅洗碗, 清洁洗手间,做足一个月, 不管思维和体魄, 必然有所提升. 然而女大女世界, 多数唔听我讲.
如各方好友的孩子曾做过这等基层工作, 或已经在McDonald卖饱, 敬请分享!

p.s. 小女在十一月参加学校的義工行, 去最便宜的泰国留五天, 费用七千六百. camp site 内有些是长期義工, 来至Norway, Australia, Germany 等, 我即时鼓动小女将来用一年gap year 做義工, 她表示那边的義工人数已经过剩, 不是想当義工就可以的. 想来此行肯定是:
阿妈交钱, 请人地去幫佢做義工, 佢就开开心心玩一餐.
