I have some info about Biomedical Engineering, as a son of my friend is interested in BME this year. He studied in UK for GCE AL, he preferred mechanical engg initally, his father and I recommended him to take an up and coming stream. He got offers from HKU, CUHK & HKPU in BME (HKU called it Medical Engg.), he took HKU as back-up. Finally, he got the offer from Imperial College and he made it finally. BME is the program which accepted the highest grades students among all engineering disciplines. Also, BME more multi-disciplines (Engineering, clincial, regulation...), also they need to study Bio & Chem on top of general engineering modules. In CU, students need to take more credits than other engineering discipline due to wider spectrum of subjects. For the new 4-yrs program, I suggest your friend to double check the total no. of credits. In HK BME, CUHK & HKU are marginally better than HKPU, as they have medical schools and teaching hospitals as backup, their students will have 2 weeks attachment in the summer between yr1-2, relatively more practice in the hospital for some subjects......... But HKPU's program more suitable to industry and more well established (CUHK's BME is a brade new program and just upto yr 2), other two's graduates not so down to the earth as HKPU and more for postgraduate programs...... In USA, I heard about John Hopkins and Minnesota are also very good in BME. Career opportunities: 1. HK Dept of Health is drafting the new Medical Device Bill, may pass to LegCo in two years time. They will expand the Medical Device Control Office..... more regulators 2. In business side, along the supply chain needs engineers for R&D, manufacturing, marketing, regulatory affairs, quality, distribution, repair and maintenance.... 3. Research and academic routes.... 4. HKIE has the BME discipline and EMSD, HA and HKPC also provide scheme-A training for engineering graduates. I wish it can help your friend and his/er daughter..... |

The following are the guaranteed entry scores for international students completing the International Baccalaureate in 2011 and applying to enter the University of Melbourne in 2012*. Agriculture 25 Arts 31 Biomedicine 36 Commerce 34 Environmental Horticulture (Associate Degree) 24 Environments 31 Oral Health 25# Science 31 Surprise to know that the admission grade is so low for the top university in Australia #37 in Times Higher Education 2011-2012. Not bad for back up choice. [ 本帖最後由 kym 於 11-11-19 15:45 編輯 ] |

kym The scores you mentioned are based on 42 or 45. If based on 45, it's not so demanding as HK & UK. ANChan59 |
