yeah, I do agree w/ sschiu. What you shd concern at the 1st sight is not the tution fee but what kind of school does yr child suitable for. Besides attending the school seminars, you better go through all our discussion in BK so that you could hv more ideas.

Hi bbwong,

The main difference between CKY and most international schools is that CKY has a very strong Chinese curriculum. Principal Lau's expertise is in teaching of Chinese language using putonghu ...

bbwong, I guess some parents have already explained the importance of 'matching' between your kid and the school.

Perhaps I could share my thoughts on the English standard of CKY students. Some of them are really good. They are more than fluent in English. As I always say, their spoken English is well above most students (elite local schools included). Fair to say that there are only a few English primary schools that have the majority of lessons conducted in English.

However, if you are really concerned about the 'native' accent of English and would like to compare with IS, I wouldn't recommend CKY to you. Some students are not following the language policy and therefore do not talk to each other in English (or PTH) as required.

After all, it really depends on what you are looking for and what you'd like your kid to be? If English is your only criterion, you'd better go for an IS.

bbwong,

Agree with you, the tution fee is high compare with local school (Zero) or even DSS. If you estimate what you pay and what you get, I will say it is worth. If school can reduce the tution fee and at the same time provide an excellent teaching staff and facilites, I will be very very happy. Now, I am happy with what I got. Of couse, if you can afford more, properly you may get better outcome.

Say HK XXX Light. It is talking about $2xxx per month...Happy, right. May be you think it is too high too. But what they can offer is only 1 Oral (Eng) lesson per week, which instructed by a Native Teacher (as I understand). If you have to reach your ultimate goal, you may estimate how much additonal $ you have to invest....1000 per month...Na...2000 per month...duno...you have to find a native teacher 1 to 1 say everyday.:funk:

My son has just completed his second week in P1.
I think he speaks very agreeable English, but that is only because I would only speak to him in English since his birth (I went to study in the UK when I was 12). Moreover, he is not allowed to watch Cantonese TV.
Putonghua, however, is OK.

I am not sure whether a "native" accent is all that important.
Accent only play a small part in one’s ability to communicate.
Long time BBC watchers/listeners would have noticed that “received pronunciation”, at one point the only acceptable accent, have fallen out of vogue in the recent decades.

BTW, I have turned down an offer from Shatin Junior to come to CKY.
So you can see that sporting a “native” accent is not on the top of my set of priorities.

Dear all CKY parents,

I am very interested to apply CKY for my son and would like to seek your kind assistance.

I have checked year 1 admissions application which stated "OPTIONAL: an additional two A4 pages of your choosing i.e. recommendation letter" - is that mean there's no need to submit profile & other activities certificates?

Million thanks.

makfr,

I cannot speak for the school, but my feeling is that it is nice to show the certs / achievements of your child if you have. However, I don't think they are very important in their decision making. I remember the teacher did flipped through our profile while she was talking with us during the second interview. She did asked some questions on some of the photos and certs. Anyway, I think the profile just helped to give the teacher some general impressions but not crucial. More important is if parents really understand their education philosophy, mission and curriculum and agree with them.

sschiu & ckwliu,

Thank you very much for your advice.

I think the most important is the performance of our kids during interview, and, of course the parents should have same education philosophy with the school.

Once again, thank you so much for your assistance.
