I've read the memo. This make me relief. At least there is no student withdrawn. I can say the school make the application in an open and fair way but it may induce worry and query. So communication is necessary.

BTW, I found that the number of P.1 is 161 and P.2 is 159. Does it mean one of the pupil who "Stay" at P.1 one more year?

Hi Ambrose,

All the P2 & P3 students is a new comer in this school. That means no P1 student is "repeated" one more year.

According to the "Parents Meeting" that held on 18th Oct, 2003. The Principal said that there are over hundreds application still waiting for the P1-P3 admission.
:-D

Ambrose,
This is what I 'guess' on the extra 1 student in P1. I met one of the parent before and she had her elder son accepted into P2/3 but her younger son was allocated to another school by central allocation. So she said she would 'beg' the principal if she could consider to allow his younger son to be accepted into YingWa. Maybe she successed. :-P

If it is true, how nice does our school. Hope my boy enjoy the school life. But I worry about the hardship because some parents told me that there are about 8-10 homework daily. Does the primary section push hard on their students in order to keep the high stadard of secondary section?

Hi Ambrose

It is very good to have such a supportive parent as you to be Ying Wa Parent.

Miss Kan, the Principal of Ying Wa Primary school, has set it's standard at above average. It is not just one of the primary schools in Sham Shui Po but it is Ying Wa, a through-train school to Band 1 Ying Wa College. I think that is the anticipation of most of the Ying Wa Parents.

To my opinion, they have got a good approach in the curriculae. They will focus on projects, training of criticism thinking, self-learning and creative thinking, music and sports. In one's learning life, especially in primary stage, necessary and basic homework is needed.

I am not the type of person that will push the kids learning extremely hard by using every second of their time without relaxation, however, we, as responsible parents, should anticipate and take part in helping our kids to be reaching an above-average standard.

Subjectively, the test papers of the Test in October were not very complicated and yet not simple, they need kids' logical thinking and carefulness in answering them in order to score high marks. That means, the kids have to apply what they have learnt. To my opinion, as parents, we may need to look back why the performance came out not so satisfactory. Before the test, the school was criticised as low standard; now, when the school has a demand and produced qualified papers, people say it is too demanding; isn't it a bit contradictory???

If we want to keep the high standard and discipline of Ying Wa College, we must and have to keep the standard and discipline of Ying Wa Primary School. I think we should open ourselves, go to understand and look into the approach of Ying Wa and take our roles to establish a famous primary section.

Cheers

Thanks H&S Mom. I think it is difficult to set a baseline for the requirement. Too simple then low standard. Too complicate then too demanding. I think the most important is "San Chow See Cow" (teaching based on individual capbabilites). Anyway, See U in Ying Wa.

ambrose:

你的意思是 "Yan Choi See Gow"(因材施教) 吧。

Hi H&S Mom & Ambrose

Thank you for your message, especially those discussions from H&S Mom, which are very informative.

I agree with the message H&S Mom said about the standard of test paper. I would very hope each of the parents of Ying Wah could be more united to build up this school. I believe children have strong adaption ability (especially with the help and support of parents), they will adapt and learn well with the newly devised test papers and style.

Cheers
