Hi all SHC parents Why do you spend so much time & effort to try to send your kids to your "desired" school? To find a place where they can receive good education & holistic development in areas such as the spiritual, moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic? OR, a place where they should receive 1st class training for exams & get high scores? The school is a happy place for studying and learning, a place the students would like to identify with and be proud of. I understand the Principals of both am/pm have done a lot to cultivate the current atmosphere & to reduce pressure & work load to parents & students. I know what I'm looking for but I also respect others choice. Honestly, I feel the same as Durian. About CCM comment To certain extend, you're right! But I'd argue if we need to start such "enlightening" in P1; right after kindergarten. Or, do we not have other ways or activities that can "enlighten" our kids apart from "exam papers"??? Sorry if my words are too strong but this is how I felt!!! Cheers gt143 :hammer: :hammer: |

Hi gt143 I agree with SH has moved a long way from pressurising homework and all. And from those who know me, I am a keen advocate of SH philosophy. Unfortunately, I have to face reality and the central allocation to secondary schools is based on banding (which is based on marks). Perhaps you need not bother with this since your kid is brilliant and has already achieved "enlightening" - congratulations! But not every kid can fluently put everything learned on paper without efforts. I have seen students who know their work but just cannot answer questions properly thus failing the subject. By the way, please note that I did indicate that this process of "enlightening" is probably more for higher primary. :-D :-D :-D I don't expect everyone to agree on the technique, and I agree it is not a substitute for the knowledge. But to me, it is a way to find out if my kid can provide good replies to questions and not just regurgitate words without thinking. Also, I am lazy to think of maths questions....... ;-) ;-) ;-) |

Ms CC Hi - long time no "talk" :cheeze: :cheeze: :cheeze: I agree with your comment on the purpose for using exams papers or assessment papers (for that matter as well). The ultimate motive of ""捉"題目 or to 催谷或熟習試題內容 is not what I want for my kids too. |

Hi mrs_tom I applaud your viewpoint !   I always tell my friends that I am re-taking my primary school exams. And the worst thing is that I have to learn Chinese in complex characters...... :-? :-? :-? I am sure everyone has his or her own way to motivate the kids, and there is definitely no right or wrong way - just what works best!   |

絕對同意mrs_tom的講法。
