I heard that they will be the same as S' now, ie. 4+2. Anyone knows more about S' secondary curriculum?

IB looks quite good:

do u know which curriculum that SIS secondary will take ? will they consider IB ?

At this moment, for secondary, they will not consider IB.. not too sure abt the pre-university (i.e. year 11(secondary 5) and year 12 (secondary 6))

Alot of the other IS are considering IB and I think this is the direction to go. But for the school to change to IB - it will involve alot of COST, esp in getting the qualified teachers to teach IB or re-training the current pools of teachers ! And also in Singapore, most secondary schools in SIN are not running IB only a few priviledged schools are doing IB at the higher level.

Hi! Do u think SIS will consider to teach traditional Chinese in lower form. Some parents said that if the children learn simplified Chinese, he/she can hardly write traditional Chinese, and the parents have to put a lot of efforts behind if they want their children to learn traditional Chinese. And even the children can read, they can hardly write due to less prastise at school work. But if they learn traditional Chinese first, it's easy for them to learn both.

Do u think the school will consider this matter?

Hi bbjp ,

DEFINITELY NOT - in teaching traditional chinese. In Singapore, all schools learn simplified chinese.

Hi YYYY,

I think IB or GCE - should be able to find good Uni if your results are good.. so no worry.

Dear Ivylove,

How much is the tuition fees for Math, Science and English ? Is this private or group tuitiion ?

thanks

Hi all,I don't think SIS will teach traditional chinese as
all singaporean learn simplify chinese back home and
furthermore it looks like simplify chinese is taking over traditional chinese because it is only HK and Taiwan still using trad chinese.
The tutorial centre that my son going has courses for
trad chinese and simplify chinese,if I'm not wrong,it is
a kind of VS thing, they said it is designed for those who are learning either type of chinese and wants to
learn the other type now.As for their fees,I think it is
affordable for lots of us.It is $250 for english,$230 for chinese,$250 for science but for maths, they have different rates,P1-2 $200,P3-4 $250,P5-6 $280 for an hour.I still think if anyone is interested
should go to have a look for youself, like I said everyone has different needs,it may be great for me
may not be the same for you. They provide small group tution not more than 4 or 5 kids in a group
which I'm happy with it because I want my son to
mix with other kids to learn to be a better team player and not to reley too much on 1 to 1 private
tution.I think when my boy had shown improvement
on what he is learning,I will adjust his time table to let him learn the trad and simplify chinese to strengthen his chinese skill.Bye now, good luck, mothers !
