Dear LiLiK, kkpapa and other Y6 parents, Do your kids find things taught at Y6 difficult? My boy used to enjoy school very much. But last night, he told me that he did not like going to school now, unlike before, because he found the new school "very difficult". I could feel his frustration when he said so. I comforted him that things would get better soon. But deep down I am worried and feel sad. Can u share more how your kids settle into the new Y6? |

Dear Longmum, Though my son is still a Y1 student, I could still feel your worriness. As IBD is really a difficult examination, that requests students to be equipped with fluent English and all-rounded knowledge. This is really not an easy curriculum, especially for non English mother-tongue students. Hope your son to get through soon. Best regards. |

Longmum, year 6 here equival. to F. 1 of other school. I found Maths and Eng. require different skills and technics, also more insight and efforts. At the same time, year 6 kids now growing taller and become more sensitive to parents/teachers' comment. they need to handle growing demands inside school as well. It is a big challenge for them. Let's back to basic, hv a chat with the class teachers, or Ms. Lam who handles their moral class. they can give the children psychological support. I faced the same issue weeks ago and now my kid feeling much better after having a few talks with Ms. Lam and other teachers. |

Could we say that there is still a gap between Y5 and Y6 curriculum, maybe Y5 is too easy. |

kyliema2006, I'm not sure about the gap issue. there is also a gap between P. 6 and F. 1. I wld say that parents and school support are both important to the boys and girls. |

longmum, year 5 class need to write 3000 words Chinese and English essay or research at the end of the school year. the exercise start from May to Jul. It creates great pressure to teacher, parents and kids, hwr, it is a good exercise to prepare for year 6 studies. since your kid is new comer and I'm not sure whether he has this kind of experience. anyway, according to Principal Lau, it is not easy to introduce new comer to the year 6 class, well... it seems your child has good potential, that may be the good reason they accept your application. pls give more confidence to your kid and contact class teacher for further help and support. |

?-( ?-( ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-) |

Thank you all for your sharing and advice. I will try to talk to the school teachers without waiting for the parents' day/night. BTW, have u heard about he parents' day/night? I wish to have it earlier so that I can get to know some parents and also about the school system. |
